Define the joint and the environment

An adhesive or sealant should be selected for the substrates and service conditions, not only for a familiar colour or product family. State the materials, surface condition, joint dimensions, movement expectations and environmental exposure. Identify whether the product is intended for bonding, sealing, filling or another defined task.

Ask the supplier for the manufacturer’s technical and safety information for the exact offered product. Confirm any required surface preparation, primer, curing conditions and application limits. A statement that a product is suitable for general use does not answer a specific compatibility question. Where necessary, plan an application trial before approving a larger order.

Make packaging and usable quantity comparable

Record the container size, pack quantity, application equipment and any required mixing ratio. A cartridge price is not directly comparable with a bulk pack until the usable quantity and application process are understood. Ask whether nozzles, mixers or dispensing tools are included and whether they can be supplied separately.

Specify the minimum remaining shelf life required on delivery and the storage conditions expected during transport. Confirm how batch numbers and expiry information will be labelled. Avoid ordering more than the project can reasonably use within the documented storage period merely to obtain a lower unit price.

Agree the receipt check

Inspect containers for damage, leakage and clear product identification. Compare batch details and remaining shelf life with the agreed terms. Confirm that the delivered product version and documentation match the approved specification. Keep suspect or incorrectly identified material separate until the responsible technical team has reviewed it.

Compare supplier offers using the full application cost, support and reliable replenishment rather than package price alone. An inspection can document agreed visible characteristics and records, but it cannot establish long-term adhesion for an untested application. PROCONSA can organise supplier clarification and a documented receipt check, while the buyer retains approval of the material for its intended use.
